One of the city's major people-drawers is the world-wide famous London Eye. This huge "entertainment wheel" offers "joy-rides" to not less than 3.5 million customers every year.
It is no doubt that London Eye is London's most popular tourist attraction, when seeing that number.
Since its opening, in March 2000, the EDF Energy London Eye has become an iconic landmark and a symbol of modern Britain. It is not only London's most visited attraction, but also the most popular paid visitor attraction in the entire UK.
How London Eye appears today is the vision of architects David Marks and Julia Barfield. It was designed as a wheel to symbolize the end of the 20th century, and time turning into the new millennium.
With a hight of approximately 443 feet, it is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe. It carries 32 capsules, each weighing 10 tonnes, the total weight of the wheel and capsules being of 2,100 tonnes.
It is no doubt that the London Eye is, at least to say, an impressive architectural structure. It is a breathtaking example of magnificent design and engineering, and offers its passengers a panoramic view of London, of 40 km in all directions.
It has become a tradition for London visitors to take at least one spin on London Eye, while staying in the city, therefore, be sure not to miss it, when visiting.
